Anyway eventually they will pry Itsuki away from Buzen and send him off to his own house... and after everyone's had time to visit everyone, they will be here, settled in. Probably, they should try and get some sleep, but Yasusada's still buzzing with energy after all of that.

(And, well. He knows that staying up won't prevent tomorrow from coming, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't a little scared that he'd find himself awake and surrounded by sleeping bodies all over again. But it's nice, sometimes, to pretend.)

So for now, unless Buzen seems like he's tired, he'll stay awake.]

It's a little hard to believe you're really back like this.

[He'd been so, so worried that Buzen's spirit would be stuck here, unable to get back to the saniwa.]

- it's a funny thing though. because buzen has dealt with an awful lot of people lately who can't really sleep once they're with him again. who knows what sleep might bring, when it's been proven that these dreams are truly difficult for them to understand. or when you wake up, and find that those dreams are far sweeter than reality?

so he's not tired. if anything, he's still more closely watching yams. the two of them are probably by the cliffside outside the motor home, overlooking the ocean. he'll go inside eventually....]

... mm. It's a little sudden, but I'm not going to complain.

In the end, we were able to manage to get everyone back. Once we break the prism and open up the paths back home, then I'll consider it a successful mission.

[There's definitely a weight to his shoulders that wasn't there before, all those weeks ago. He wouldn't have traded his responsibilities away--if anything, he would've felt so much worse by this point, had he not had any idea of anything going on behind the scenes--but it was still a heavy burden nonetheless. Combined with everything their adventures did to him, and to Kashuu... there are fears etched into them both that likely won't ever be shaken off again.

For now, he's alternating between watching the ocean and looking over at Buzen, as if to make sure he won't disappear if Yasusada blinks for too long.]

I miss being home. But I'm going to miss the people here, too.

[If they make it out alive. It's still so hard to feel optimistic--they've been battered relentlessly for weeks, to the point where Yasusada and Kashuu were (are) genuinely ready to die trying to escape. But he wants, so badly, to believe that their return means they're on the right path, and he clings to that now, despite the dangers of hope.]

.... well, Suki's coming with us, at least. So that'll be one less person for you to miss, right?

[ . . . he looks out over the ocean, and thinks again about the ways in which his experience is different. while he gets along with humans on his missions, he never had time to fully develop attachments. and then suddenly here, it feels like he has nothing but endless connections and ties that he doesn't want to lose.]

It's been strange, for me. I'm not like you or Kiyo-san. I don't really have strong memories of any individual people...

Feels like I have something to really miss for the first time.

[knowing that these people's lifespans will be so short too - it's not like the gous where buzen might miss them, but he can reasonably believe that sometime in their long lifespans they'll see each other again.

Will it really be okay?

[Not in the sense of "will aruji allow it", because--well, the saniwa allows a lot of things he probably shouldn't for one thing, and because he has confidence that Buzen could make a strong case for Itsuki staying. But more in the sense of, is it putting Itsuki in danger? Or altering the timeline?

He trusts that Buzen knows what he's doing, and if he'd decided this back in the beginning, then Yasusada probably wouldn't even be asking. But after all the time they've spend here, he can't help worrying a little anyway.

Itsuki being a human with a short lifespan--well, maybe he'd worry a little about that too, but honestly, he doesn't think Buzen minds that. Buzen's used to running ahead anyway, and for all that they turbo-bonded with their sword connection, Yasusada can't claim to know him will enough to doubt his judgment.

And anyway, he doesn't want to. They've had so few sources of joy in this place--Buzen and Itsuki both deserve to make whatever choices make them happiest. It's a precious thing, having someone you care about by your side for as long as you can, and he has no intention of questioning that.]

It would be nice, if there was some way to see each other again.

[If only the prism wasn't so full of MURDER and also hadn't trapped them there... it could've been so nice...]

[and despite the casualness of his answer, buzen will admit that he had thought about it a bit. he makes a lot of snap judgments quickly - but it's not like he doesn't put care into those decisions when he does.]

He's not... from our universe, from what I can tell. Which is hard to wrap my mind around though I got better at it once we spent more time here. Even though he's from Japan - it's also not our Japan. When he describes things to me, it sounds like it's already a pretty big divergence... and he has powers that humans shouldn't have.

It shouldn't affect our timeline and our mission - it'll be more of an adjustment for him than it is for us. But if he wants to come with us, I won't be the one to tell him no.

[the fact that if buzen was dating someone but there's nothing that rules them out as possibly being from their timeline, he would simply ghost them at the end because it could jeopardize the mission. hell, he wouldn't have even told itsuki anything about their duties if itsuki hadn't shared that he possessed powers. in the end, he is still a sword and he doesn't know how (or want to know how) to put any individual person above their tasks.

itsuki is about as safe as a person to have as any. and buzen is a sword so comfortable with death that it may sometimes feel like a constant shroud on his shoulders... but it also makes him perfectly fine with the idea of mortality.

when you are someone who may not exist, you don't think it's so bad even if something's not built to last. at least it still was.]

... but I don't know about everyone else. Some of them talk so confidently of other worlds... maybe they've figured out something that we haven't.

[It's a good enough answer for him--though, really, anything would've been. He'd mostly just asked out of curiosity; the person he loves most will be at his side no matter what, so it's not something he's ever had to consider.]

Mm, maybe. [Damien had spoken of human time travelers in his world, and Yasusada knows that Riff can do something like it, too. It's not such a strange thing to consider anymore.] If that's something they can do, then I'd like to see them.

[He doesn't have to say that Itsuki is always welcome, that he'll be loved at the citadel too--Buzen already knows that, he's sure. Though, there's a thought that makes him smile, a little.]

Do you think Itsuki will like Aruji?

[It's almost strange, thinking of their master spending time with another human regularly. Granted, neither of them are "normal" humans, but still.]
